School Trip to Taitung: Ren-mei Waldorf School Sailing Experience

This March, we were delighted to welcome students from Ren-mei Waldorf Experimental School for a unique learning journey in Taitung, combining sailing in Taiwan with a variety of ocean-based outdoor activities. Traveling all the way from northern Taiwan, the group joined us for a multi-day program designed to help students learn sailing, connect with nature, and experience the coastal environment of Taitung.

A 3-Day Sailing Experience

Over the course of three days, students participated in structured sailing lessons, starting with the basics and gradually building their confidence on the water. At the heart of this program is experiential learning: by stepping outside the classroom and into nature, students develop confidence, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for the environment. Through the sailing courses, students learned how to control the boat, understand wind direction, and work as a team core. For many students, this was their first time sailing, making it an exciting and memorable introduction to the sport.

In addition to sailing, the program included a range of outdoor activities that allowed students to explore the ocean in different ways. One afternoon was dedicated to stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and kayaking, giving students the chance to experience the water at their own pace. Another highlight was an outrigger canoe session, where teamwork and rhythm played a key role in navigating the coastline. These activities complement our sailing school programs by offering a broader ocean experience beyond traditional sailing lessons.

We are especially happy to welcome schools from northern Taiwan to Taitung. These trips create valuable opportunities for students to experience a different side of the island, from its slower pace of life to its rich natural environment, and it is inspiring to see more schools choosing sailing courses and outdoor activities as part of their educational journeys for students.
